Working With Connections
Masters of Social Work
Enhanced Placement Program
Over the past
three years Connections has helped Masters of Social Work (MSW)
students acquire more of the competencies needed to serve Philadelphia
BHS
consumers, including an understanding of the importance of consumers'
families
and awareness of the operation and resources of the BHS. It
has also worked to
increase the number of social work students who choose
to work and stay in the
Philadelphia BHS after graduation through the
MSW Enhanced Placement program.
During the 2007-2008 school year, there were five primary collaborative efforts
that
Connections funded, involving five schools of social work and nine
provider
agencies.
Connections provided stipends and other placement enhancements
to twenty-nine
Masters of Social Work students doing their field placements in
BHS
agencies.
Typical
collaborative efforts include:

Exchanges of information: provider agency staff give Connections-funded
presentations to faculty and students, and faculty present to provider staff.

Enhancements of student placements through additional educational and
supervisory experiences funded by Connections at provider agency sites.
-
Provision of Connections-funded faculty consultation concerning program
development and evaluation to provider agency partners.
